I started reading "Heretics of Dune" by Frank Herbert today, and came across a passage I feel grievously inclined to share:
… It was as though her accumulated female memories lashed out at the unconscious assumptions and unexamined prejudices behind the concept.
“Only liberals really think. Only liberals are intellectual. Only liberals understand the needs of their fellows.”
How much viciousness lay concealed in that word! Odrade thought. How much secret ego demanding to feel superior.
The Dune series is a coup de maître compared to anything else on my bookself. To be fair, many of the books on my shelf aren't geared for anyone past a sixth-grade reading level. (I need to find new authors!)
